Dear Fellow Optimists,
Juanita and I are humbled and honored for the opportunity to serve as your Governor and First Lady for the great North Carolina West District for the 2008-2009 year! We thank you for this privilege and will do our best to uphold your trust in us.
Our District has a great history of service to our youth and communities, as well as to leadership in Optimist International. However, it is the service at the club level where "the rubber meets the road". Our District Leaders are here to serve you as individual clubs and members.
I want to thank all of you who have agreed to serve as club and District leaders for the coming year - club presidents, club secretary-treasurers, lieutenant governors, other District officer and committee chairs. Working together, we will have another great Optimist year!
Our International theme this year is "Give Me Five for the Kids". Our District theme will be "Clement's Roosters Give Five for the Kids". Our name, Hahn, means rooster in German. So we are all roosters this year, having something to crow about -- our service to the Kids! I challenge each club to achieve a minimum of Honor Club this year, thus giving the kids a "High Five" for recruiting more Optimists to serve them.
Let's all strive to be active in our clubs through our projects, membership growth, and adding new clubs to our District. We'll work hard, have fun, and in the end, our goals will have been met in increasing our service to our youth and making a difference in their lives!
Giving "High Fives" for the Kids,
Clement Hahn
